Red Rock Canyon – west of Las Vegas – is popular with rock climbers and visitors who want to escape the madness of Vegas. On this trip we leave the climbing gear behind and decide to hike 18 km on the Grand Circle Loop. However, once we traverse the Calico Hills to Sandstone Quarry we decide that the rest of the Circle Loop would not be particularly interesting (or challenging) and instead head up the Calico Tanks trail. We end high on the sandstone hills with a scenic view of Las Vegas.
